What is the Languageplan project about?
With Languageplan, SKIN-Rotterdam connects volunteer language teachers and language buddies with people who want to improve their Dutch. This informal language education takes place in familiar settings, often within religious communities, where people feel safe to learn and practice.
What we will be doing in 2026:
Religious communities that want to organize language lessons will receive advice and practical support. We will help set up lessons, provide appropriate teaching materials, and contribute ideas about what is needed in the local situation. This ensures that the lessons are well suited to the participants and the community.
Our approach:
The strength of Languageplan lies in the careful matching and guidance of volunteers. New language volunteers and language buddies receive a basic introduction, and all volunteers can participate in refresher courses and peer review meetings. This allows them to learn from each other and continue to develop in their role.
Participants in informal language education take an entrance test so that they can start at the right level. Education can take place individually or in groups and focuses on increasing language skills, self-confidence, and participation in society.
