On the day after International Women’s Day 2024, the Ecumenical Synod of Women is organizing a synod afternoon for women leaders around the story of Hagar, enslaved, wife, mother (found in Genesis 16). Celebrating and meeting together is an important part of this afternoon. And we delve into the ways this story of Hagar can be read, and how it touches on women’s experiences. How do you read this story, what experience do you take away, what voice do you hear and what voice is (too often) silenced.
